3/7: Brian Hamann Places 4th In Atlantic City
Freshman Brian Hamann wrestled his way to a 4th place finish in the 103-pound weight class this weekend at the 2010 NJSIAA State Tournament in Atlantic City. Hamann was 4-2 on the weekend with his losses coming to champion Anthony Ashnault of South Plainfield and 3rd-place finisher Kyle McNulty of TR North. Highlight wins for Hamann included handing previously unbeaten Kevin Manthi of Passaic Tech his first loss and a 1-0 win over 5th place finisher Nick Gravina of Northern Highlands.
For the season, Hamann finishes with a record of 31-8 with 20 pins.
Teammates BJ Young, Devin Biscaha, Doug Hamann, Mike Shupin, and Dallas Winston fell short in their bids for medals.
Shupin went 1-2 at 112 and Winston was eliminated in the opening round of the 160-pound bracket.
The Jags trio of Region champs: Young, Biscaha, and the older Hamann all won their opening bouts, but went on to drop their next two to finish one win shy of reaching the Boardwalk Hall podium.

BJ Young, Doug Hamann, and Devin Biscaha won individual titles, MIke Shupin placed 2nd, and Brian Hamann and Dallas Winston wrestled back for 3rd place as Jackson Memorial advanced six wrestlers to the NJSIAA Championships in Atlantic City.
Brian Hamann, Shupin, and Winston will compete in the opening round of the State Tournament, while Young, Biscaha, and Doug Hamann receive byes into the pre-quarterfinal round.

Five Jags won individual titles, and seven more earned medals, as the Jags outppointed Howell by 31.5 to recapture the District 21 Team Title after having their string of eleven in a row snapped by the Rebels last season.
Jackson's five champions, including District 21 Outstanding Wrestler BJ Young, will now receive byes into Friday night's quarterfinal round of the Region 6 Tournament. The rest will be on the mats on Tuesday night as the Regions open up at the Ritacco Center.

3/7: Brian Hamann Places 4th In Atlantic City
Freshman Brian Hamann wrestled his way to a 4th place finish in the 103-pound weight class this weekend at the 2010 NJSIAA State Tournament in Atlantic City. Hamann was 4-2 on the weekend with his losses coming to champion Anthony Ashnault of South Plainfield and 3rd-place finisher Kyle McNulty of TR North. Highlight wins for Hamann included handing previously unbeaten Kevin Manthi of Passaic Tech his first loss and a 1-0 win over 5th place finisher Nick Gravina of Northern Highlands.
For the season, Hamann finishes with a record of 31-8 with 20 pins.
Teammates BJ Young, Devin Biscaha, Doug Hamann, Mike Shupin, and Dallas Winston fell short in their bids for medals.
Shupin went 1-2 at 112 and Winston was eliminated in the opening round of the 160-pound bracket.
The Jags trio of Region champs: Young, Biscaha, and the older Hamann all won their opening bouts, but went on to drop their next two to finish one win shy of reaching the Boardwalk Hall podium.

BJ Young, Doug Hamann, and Devin Biscaha won individual titles, MIke Shupin placed 2nd, and Brian Hamann and Dallas Winston wrestled back for 3rd place as Jackson Memorial advanced six wrestlers to the NJSIAA Championships in Atlantic City.
Brian Hamann, Shupin, and Winston will compete in the opening round of the State Tournament, while Young, Biscaha, and Doug Hamann receive byes into the pre-quarterfinal round.

Five Jags won individual titles, and seven more earned medals, as the Jags outppointed Howell by 31.5 to recapture the District 21 Team Title after having their string of eleven in a row snapped by the Rebels last season.
Jackson's five champions, including District 21 Outstanding Wrestler BJ Young, will now receive byes into Friday night's quarterfinal round of the Region 6 Tournament. The rest will be on the mats on Tuesday night as the Regions open up at the Ritacco Center.

2010 Season Preview
Head Coach: Doug Withstandley (3rd Season / 39-7)
Jackson lost several standouts to graduation, but between the talent that is returning along with some very promising newcomers, it should be business as usual in JagVille.
The lower half will once again be the strength of the Jackson lineup. Devin Biscaha and BJ Young, who both placed 4th at the Regions a year ago, are the lone seniors of the bunch. Junior Mike Shupin has been very good in the chances he's gotten over the past two years and should have a breakout season now that he's claimed a starting spot. Sophomore Brad Royle got off to a nice start at 103 until weight issues took him out of the lineup. Freshmen Brian Hamann and Spencer Young join the lineup after tearing it up on the Intermediate and Rec scene over the last few years.
Another 4th place finisher at Regions, junior Doug Hamann, will be the hammer in the upper half of the lineup. Some of the bigger names in the lineup the previous two years may have overshadowed Hamann, but he should step out in a huge way in 2010. Returning starters Matt Kimball, Drew Murphy, and Joe Nolan should be on the plus side of .500 this season, and sophomore Dallas Winston will be very tough at 160.

Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Devin Biscaha
Biscaha really turned it on towards the end of the year picking up some very impressive wins in the 2nd half of the dual season. Then, wrestling up a couple of weight classes, he made a run to the 3rd place match at Regions before having to withdraw because of an injury. He could put together a very big year wrestling on weight at 140.
DESPO's Outlook
Losing 134 wins, 5 District medalists, 3 Region medalists, and 2 state placers to graduation is never easy to overcome, but if history has shown any program is capable of it, it's Jackson Memorial. The Jags may not have the big name hammers up and down the lineup like they've had in previous years, but there is no reason to expect anything else than another big year out of Jackson wrestling. If the upperweights show strong improvement, and the newcomers wrestle to their potential, Jackson will be in every title hunt and near the very top of all the rankings.
